At-Home Fiesta!

One of the biggest days of the year for gathering, celebrating, drinking good tequila and filling up on tortilla chips is almost here. Instead of fighting for a dinner reservation or waiting hours for a table at your local taco joint, plan a Cinco de Mayo party at home instead! I teamed up with StyleBlueprint to create "Last Minute Party" ideas with a Fiesta theme, and I thought it was particularly relevant to share with you this year.

  1. Don't be afraid to entertain because you're short on time. Before getting overwhelmed at the process, make a list of what you want to be in charge of and what you can delegate to friends and local vendors.

  2. The next step is to text your guest list! Since Cinco de Mayo will be here in less than a week, start a group thread and find out who can attend the festivities. Once you know your head count, contact your favorite Mexican-inspired restaurant. From Rosepepper Cantina and Pancho & Lefty's to bartaco and Agave, there are so many local options to support based on your neighborhood.

  3. Then, enlist help! Ask for volunteers to bring margarita fixin's (I've made it easy on them by providing a recipe they can follow below!), chips & salsa, guacamole, Topo Chico and of course an extra bag of limes. That way you can focus on the décor and catering menu.

  4. Next, plan out your tabletop decor by first assessing what you have at the ready. This is such a colorful theme that you can use items around the house, or if you’re in the mood for something new, Pier 1, Homegoods and World Market have great elements to incorporate into your Fiesta theme.

  5. And don't forget the details, like flowers, cocktail napkins, balloons, papel picado banners and more. Play with colors and textures — you'll be surprised what works well together! Colorful throws, banners and plates add to the fun of the event. Succulents add a great texture and natural look, they are easy to work with and they live for ages. Or, head over to Trader Joe's for a variety of colorful flowers that you can throw together in a large vase for your centerpiece.

  6. Don't overthink it! This is one of my favorite holidays to pull together, because it's easy, delicious and takes no time at all.
